What’s the difference between a closed-top design and an open-top design?

With a closed-top design, the belt is raised over a closed frame. Liquids or contaminants can fall under the belt, but can’t get into the frame. In an open-top design, the belt travels across the top of an open frame. A washdown will usually remove any spilled product from the conveyor line.

How can I adjust my conveyor chain?

Make conveyor chain adjustments at the end opposite the motor. Loosen the axle bolt on both sides. Pull the axle bolts away from the motor end to remove the slack, but don’t pull too hard. Overtightening the chain will cause premature wear to the chain, bearings, and drive sprocket. If the conveyor makes clicking sounds, the belt is too tight or misaligned. We recommend tapping the axle bolt with a wooden block. Then, use it to tighten the chain a little, which should adjust the chain’s path.

What’s the best way to align my conveyor guide rails?

Adjust the rear guide rail to center the container on the conveyor. Be sure this rail is straight. Place an empty container on the conveyor at each guide rail tower. Slide the front guide rail toward the containers until there is approximately 1/16” of space between the containers and the guide rail on each side.

How often should I perform maintenance on my conveyor?

That’s going to depend on how often you use your conveyor and what you use it for. Generally, we recommend a thorough weekly cleaning with a mild detergent. Check that the feet all touch the ground and that the conveyors stay parallel to the machine frame and to each other. Check the belts for damage and keep spares on hand.
